Heather M. Offerman, Ph.D.

Welcome! ¡Bienvenidos!

I am an Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics in World Languages, Literatures and Cultures Department at the University of Arkansas. My primary line of research leverages the role of pronunciation instruction in current curriculum and classroom approaches, and explores how various types of methodologies contribute to practices of second language acquisition. My second line of research examines the role of second language perception as it relates to pronunciation instruction, specifically highlighting the noticing theory. Additionally, my tertiary line of research draws on sociolinguistic tools to assess second language learner attitudes towards various type of pronunciation instruction as well as language attitudes.

At the University of Arkansas, I also coordinate the Spanish language program, conducting instructor observations and curriculum selection for the lower and intermediate levels of Spanish.
